Skeptical Mystic print

Skeptical Mystic was created in 2019. My friend and fellow artist, Rachel, was modeling for a small group at Bo Bartlett’s studio, and I got to sit in. It started with a sketch. I took it back to the studio and re-imagined the composition, as I painted. I signed both sides of the print on purpose. It represents a duality within the mind that pushes and pulls us to and from things. The mystic is open and wandering, exploring and receiving, with intuition on the forefront. The skeptical is rooted in logic, basing situations on experience, and closed off to an extent. I believe the two live in all of us. It is also apparent with her expression, the skepticism, as her own hand rests ghost-like on the armchair. She is the very thing she doubts.
