Girls of Summer” was inspired by the Teddy Girls, a subculture of women in 1950’s UK, who rejected the traditional notions of femininity. I dreamt I was running through cobble-stoned streets with trusted friends- we were running from a group who wanted to imprison us somehow... maybe even just to go back to class... but we couldn’t bear the thought of it, and were running for our lives. We finally exited the city of tall buildings, and found a high point to overlook where we’d escaped. We could finally see what was down there, clearly. Breathing heavily and relieved, we knew truth in that moment. We saved each others’ lives. We were powerful. We knew what was important.

This image was taken at my first art show, July 2019, with the Columbus Collective in the courtyard of the historic, Springer Opera House.
